This is one of the best ape/monkey portraits I've seen. It carries a very personal touch, almost like I'm sitting next to the animal.

I am too broke to give 'official' critiques so I'll just do it here

Beautiful photograph, you've really captured the eyes of this ape very well. They are expressive and the lighting is just perfect on them. You could desaturate the blue out of the light reflections in the eye. The black background is not only very complimentary to the image, but the way that the chimp fades into it works very well.
As you probably know, I think a change in the DOF would have made this photo even better. In addition to just keeping the lips and mouth in slightly better focus (which would not really have detracted from the photo with such great eyes to balance it out, but which now causes a contrast of focus that is destracting), the shorter DOF ends up with the light glare on the lips turning into a huge blurred bright distraction from the rest of the image that contrasts strongly with the black of the rest. Even some slight burning and desaturation in that area may help in this regard.

Anyway, great image. Absolutely love the clarity and detail and mood of those eyes

Great image, I love the way you manage to avoid manmade objects in these photos. I notice your apperture is 2.8, with something like f8 your depth of field will be better, his mouth being in focus would improve it further.

yeah I know that but it is dark a lot of the time, with a wide aperture I can get more light to expose it properly without camera shake, which is a pain in the bum.
